Beginning Jan. 5, 2020, we will have a new Music Director. Joel is a local music artist that captures the sounds of Guthrie. We are excited to have him play in our beautiful sanctuary. Here is a little information on Joel:
Joel Mosman is a proud family man, Jesus follower, and musical artist who has called Guthrie "home" since 2009. He married his wife Dana in 2011 and they now have two children, Molly and Wiley, with a third on the way. Joel drives a semi truck during the week and on nights and weekends performs as a singer/songwriter, entertainer, and event DJ.
"Much of my faith is based on Matthew 25:40 '‘...whenever you did it for any of my people, no matter how unimportant they seemed, you did it for me.’" As followers of Jesus we're called to strive to be like him in every way. That doesn't just mean loving our fellow church members on Sunday morning. Being a Jesus follower means loving everyone you encounter, from every walk of life, every day, wherever you are. Jesus spent time in the temple but much of the Gospel story takes place on the street."
Joel started piano at the age of five and then picked up the guitar at age 10. Along the way he has also learned other instruments including voice, harmonica, banjo, and bass. He enjoys a wide variety of music including rock, soul, folk, blues, jazz, funk, country, hip-hop, and bluegrass. As a music minister, Joel incorporates many of these styles as a platform for modern worship.
In addition to music ministry, Joel performs as a solo artist, as well as many other musical projects including as a frontman for the Americana band Oklahoma Uprising. With 11 years on stage, Joel has had the opportunity to perform as a supporting act for Roy Clark, Arlo Guthrie, and at venues and festivals including the Tower Theatre, Will Roger's Theatre, Red Brick Nights, and Norman Music Festival.
Joel is proud to call Guthrie 'home' and is looking forward to serving as the Music Director at FUMC Guthrie!

Join Adam Hamilton in exploring popular sayings that miss the point. They are simple phrases: "God helps those who help themselves," "Love the sinner, hate the sin," and others. They sound Christian - like something you might find in the Bible. We’ve all heard these words. Maybe we’ve said them. They capture some element of truth, yet they miss the point in important ways. Discover the whole truth by comparing common Christian clichés with the wisdom found in Scripture.
