Our Children's Ministry is truly a place for kids! Through fun hands-on learning and mission projects for the whole family, we allow children to grow in their faith and begin to take on leadership roles within our church and community. At Guthrie FUMC, you will find a ministry that supports families. We want kids to connect with God in an environment that is personal, fun, safe and nurturing.
We offer interactive Sunday nursery, Children’s Church, church camps and a variety of other educational mediums to spread God's love.
Nursery & Children’s Church
Birth through fifth grade | Upstairs
Our nursery is available for babies up to 36 months on Sundays during worship services and Sunday School times. All of our nursery rooms provide a safe, fun and age-appropriate environment for our littlest members, giving parents an ease-of-mind to worship themselves.
First Kids Elementary programming, based off of curriculum found at DeepBlueKids.com, is geared towards children 2 years of age through 5th grade and is available during worship and the 9:45 Sunday school hour. Excused before our sermon, through games, crafts and age-appropriate lessons and applications, your elementary student will journey through the weekly Bible lesson in a small-group setting, as well as experience the large-group lesson in our children's praise and worship space.
Our nursery and children’s church are staffed by paid, experienced workers who are CPR and First-Aid certified. They also continue their education by attending classes and seminars throughout the year in topics such as child development and safety procedures. Our qualified staff creates a positive church experience that introduces babies and toddlers to a love for Jesus early on in life. If you have any questions, please email Rev. Trey Witzel at email@example.com.
Our goal as a Youth Group is to love students (6th through 12th grades), and to encourage and challenge students to live boldly the life Jesus Christ calls us to as Christ followers. We believe in sharing life together, living a life of worship, and serving those in need.
During the 9:45am Sunday School hour, our youth participate in Bible study and life discussions by our excellent youth sponsors.
Sunday Night Youth
Our youth group come and learn with peers about the teachings of Christ through mission, fellowship, and Bible study. Starting at 5:30pm and ending at 7pm, our youth group is led by Rev. Kevin Tankerson and our youth sponsors. Opening with a meal and game, Sunday night youth provides a space to prepare for the school week and continue developing into disciples of Jesus Christ as our youth discern the call God has for their lives.
Our youth group has monthly events with our sister church, Edmond FUMC, and participates in district and conference wide events such as dodgeball tournaments, Color Fest, and lock-ins.
The highlight of our youth program are our summer camps. We attend Camp Spark, a United Methodist discipleship camp for youth devoted to faith development, meaningful relationships, intentional worship, and lots of fun. Those on our youth leadership team spend a week at LEAD Camp. LEAD is a week-long leadership camp featuring active learning to develop leadership skills that pushes our youth to the limits of Christian community, leadership skills, discipleship, peer ministry, and hearing their call in Christ.
Confirmation is a time for your youth to experience the teachings of Christ and learn more about Methodist theology. It is a time to explore more of their faith journey with others. The class is taught by our team of pastors and youth director. The class begins each January and is twelve weeks long. The class will join in field trips to learn about mission opportunities, explore a Jewish temple, and experience different worship experiences.

Adult Sunday School
Sunday School classes are offered for adults each Sunday from 9:45-10:45 am. Currently, we offer two Sunday School classes for Adults: Seekers, geared towards the more life experienced, and Disciples, for empty nesters and parents of youth.
Wednesday Night Bible Study
A fun, fellowship and stimulating learning approach on Wednesday evenings with various Bible studies throughout the school year, September through May, 6pm-7:30pm.
Our scouts meet weekly. Our Girls Scouts meet every Wednesday at 5:30pm in our basement, and our Cub (Pack 3850) and Boy Scouts (Troop 850) meet every Monday at 7pm in the basement.
A support group for those who are wanting to live a healthy lifestyle, meeting weekly on Tuesdays at at 5:30pm.
Beginning in the fall, we strive to build a community of moms who learn and grow together. Members meet together in a larger group setting and are connected with a small group of moms with whom they share a table at each meeting throughout the year. The calendar follows the school calendar year beginning in September and ending in May. The schedule is set to align as much as possible with public and private area school schedules. Our monthly group meetings run about two hours in length to enjoy food and fellowship, speakers, and group discussion. There will also be opportunities to participate in mission projects supported by First United Methodist Church and occasional social events outside of the meeting schedule.
