I'm New

Whether you are visiting us for the first time or have been active with us for many years, we pray for God's blessings for your life!

We currently offer one service for you to worship by connecting to God and neighbor, all grounded in the rich tradition of our United Methodist heritage. We have a historic and beautiful sanctuary, with stunning stained glass windows that serves as meeting place for our worship service.

Our worship is from the liturgical tradition. Liturgy literally means "work of the people." Our services include shared written prayers, responsive readings and affirmations of faith that come from the variety of Christian tradition as well as those newly written for our context today.

If you are thinking about coming to Guthrie FUMC for the first time, we have listed a snapshot below of what to expect on a typical Sunday morning. We realize trying something new can be a little scary and want to do everything we can to put you at ease while visiting. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our church office at 405-282-4297 or office@guthriefirstumc.org.

FAQs

Arrival

What should I wear?

Please come in whatever you feel comfortable wearing. Our most formal members wear "business casual," while our least-formal attendees wear jeans and T-shirts. We want you to be comfortable to worship our God in whatever that means to you.

Where can I park?

There are many options and lots for parking. If you are a guest, we have designated section just for you in the north main parking lot (by the red awning/portico) and close to the entrance and elevator that leads to our beautiful (historic) worship center.

We also offer parking assistance for elderly and one-parent families who need help parking on a Sunday morning. Come to the East Portico to meet one of our friendly volunteers.

There is curb side parking on Broad Street (the front or east side), on both sides of Noble

Where do I go once I have parked?

The main entrance(s) are on the East facing side.  You may use the steps to the main entrance (north east corner) or take the ramp going into the corner entrance (south east) door.  An elevator into the Sanctuary and Fellowship Hall is found under the red Awning near the visitor and handicapped parking areas.

Worship Services

What type of worship services do you offer?

We currently offer one worship service at 10:30 am. You can expect a variety of music including contemporary worship.

What will I be expected to do during a worship service?

  • First, we promise you won't be embarrassed or pressured to give money or to join the church, so relax and focus on experiencing worship.

  • We'll be singing songs to express our love for God, and the words will be on the screens for you to sing along if you would like.

  • You may also see Christian sacraments, such as baptism or communion, and we'll be sure to explain what they mean so you won't feel out of the loop. We will also have any important text on the screens to follow along.

  • One of our teaching pastors will share a relevant message to enable you to discover new truths that help you see life from God's point of view. We encourage you to take notes, if you would like. At the end of the service, you'll have an opportunity to respond to the message in a variety of ways, if you so desire.

  • Worship is about an hour so you'll be ready to go pick up your little ones, meet new friends for lunch, or just head home for that afternoon nap.
